Completing Institutional Data FieldsThis is a featured page


All the new information request screens for submitting data for Institutional data follow a general pattern.

  1. The top menu links to the other categories informational requests screens.
  2. Below the top menu, three main columns exist: “Description of Information,” “Category,” and “Institutional Check.”
  3. Description of Information: text here provides a title and brief description of the type of information requested on the horizontal row.
  4. Category: this area provides the space for loading the requested data for that designated row. In most cases, what is requested is a URL link to the institution’s Web page that further explains this specific information and a text box, to provide a brief description why this information might be important to students at a distance. (Please note: URLs should not begin with http://). To provide the request URL, institutions may have to create new Web pages.
  5. Institutional Check: Once the catalog coordinator is satisfied that the requested information is complete, he/she should change the pull down to “yes.” When all the changes are made to the page, hit the “Update Institution” button found at the bottom of the page. This will save you data entry changes. If you make a mistake, the “Reset” button will return the data presented in the form to its last saved state. When all 36 horizontal lines are completed, and marked “yes” a note will be sent to OLN to inform them to review your institution’s submission for inclusion on the Institutional Best Practice for Student Services at a DistanceWeb page.
  6. Information you have previously loaded in “Institutional Information” should appear in this new format.
  7. It is important to highlight that the request for information under the category “Policy” is only asking for information about and links to specific posted policies, as they pertain to students at a distance. We assume that institutional assurances exist that these policies are being maintained.
